Temitope before the Surgery.

28 year old Sickle Cell Disease Warrior Temitope kareem had just concluded the compulsory youth service and was about to hit the job market when AVN struck.

Temitope before the Surgery.

Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of both femoral heads and secondary osteoarthritis is an ailment common with Sickle Cell Disease carriers. This ailment is caused by the repeated ischaemic attacks as a result of the oddly shaped red cells and over time the hip joint wears out and causes them severe pain. This prevents them from walking and sometimes leads to death. Temitope was constantly in pain and needed urgent treatment. However, his parents could not afford cost of the treatment for a total Hip Replacement Surgery.

Temitope visited our office after the surgery.

Our Founder Her Excellency, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, Wife of the Executive Governor of Lagos State received a letter from his parents seeking funds to take care of their only child.

HOFOWEM sponsored the Total Hip Replacement surgery for Temitope. He was in and out of two major surgeries conducted in the Critical Care Unit between February and July 2017, we also ensured he went through the necessary physiotherapy sessions. We were more than happy in November, 2017 when the wonderful team of doctors cleared Temitope to walk unaided.

Today Temitope is hopeful for the bright future he has ahead and we at HOFOWEM are glad to be a part of his journey.
